Gesundheitsstadt Berlin and Ecclesia Group launch HRO Award
Berlin/Detmold – This year for the first time, the Gesundheitsstadt Berlin e. V. (Berlin Health Association) and the Ecclesia Group are honouring healthcare projects that offer maximum safety in diagnostics, therapy and care. The HRO Award (High Reliability Organizations) is aimed at teams in hospitals and healthcare facilities that not only demonstrably ensure the highest level of reliability in their daily routine processes, for example in obstetrics, the treatment of strokes or in the operating room, but also continuously improve their processes. The award will be presented on November 9, 2023 at the 17th National Quality Congress Health in Berlin (www.qualitaetskongress-gesundheit.de). The application phase for hospitals and healthcare facilities will start soon.
High Reliability Organizations are characterized by an extremely low rate of errors and complications in their processes, which is continuously being reduced despite the high risk. Not only the qualification of the employees plays a decisive role here, but also a maximum process orientation, the permanent identification of error potentials and the continuous training of critical situations. These measures can demonstrably improve the quality of treatment and care and enhance patient safety.
“We help hospitals and other healthcare facilities to find the right insurance cover in case of errors. But many people don't know that our service starts much earlier, namely with risk analysis and consulting with the aim of preventing errors from occurring in the first place. The fact is that even the smallest error can endanger patient safety,” explains Dr. Peter Gausmann, Managing Director of the Ecclesia Group's risk consultancy company. ”Error prevention and safe processes are therefore also of great importance to us. That is why we support the HRO Initiative and are pleased to be able to help organize the award.”
“The winning projects will set a high standard in health and care and are certainly exemplary for other institutions,” explains Dr. Daniel Dettling, Managing Director of Gesundheitsstadt Berlin e.V. ”They can contribute to a noticeable improvement in health care by boldly highlighting the pivotal points of high reliability in medicine and care.” This also contributes to the Global Action Plan for Patient Safety 2021-2030, with which the World Health Organization (WHO) aims to minimize avoidable harm caused by unsafe and unreliable processes in medicine and care and ensure the safe care of patients.
