What should you do in the event of a claim?

Immediate measures
  1. Ensure safety:

Ensure that there is no danger to persons or further damage to property. In the event of a fire, accident or other emergency, call the appropriate emergency services immediately.

  2. Mitigate damage:

Take measures to limit the damage or prevent consequential damage.

Documentation
  1. Photos and videos:

Document the damage thoroughly with photos and videos. Make sure you also take detailed photos.

  2. Witnesses:

Make a note of the contact details of any witnesses who observed the damage.

Claims report
  1. Reporting a claim:

Report the claim to your insurance company or insurance broker immediately.

  2. Written communication:

Keep a record of all written communications with the insurance company and retain them. Also make a note of the content of verbal conversations.

  3. Police report:

In the event of burglary, theft, vandalism or traffic accidents, the police should be called and a police report drawn up. Submit this report to your insurance company or insurance broker.

Repair and replacement
  1. Cost estimates:

Obtain several estimates for the repair or replacement of damaged items and submit them to the insurance company.

  2. Repair and replacement:

Wait to finalize repairs or replacement of damaged items until you receive insurance approval.

Evidence and supporting documents
  1. Expert:

If necessary, have an expert from the insurance company assess the damage. Do not carry out any extensive repairs without the consent of the insurance company, unless they are emergency measures.

  2. Invoices and receipts:

Gather all relevant invoices and receipts related to the damage. This includes purchase receipts or repair invoices.

Prevention

Preventive measures:

Once the claim has been settled, you should think about how you can prevent future damage, e.g. through safety precautions or maintenance measures.
