Greenhouse gas reduction quota - earning money with the e-mobile

At a time when sustainable mobility and the use of renewable energies are becoming increasingly important, the greenhouse gas reduction quota (GHG quota) not only makes an important contribution to climate protection, but also puts cash into the pockets of owners of battery-powered electric vehicles. However, the application process is complex and time-consuming. That is why the Competence Center Ecclesia Mobility is working with the specialist GreenAir, which handles the entire process.

Although the German government ended state subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles at the end of 2023, drivers can still benefit from a financial advantage in addition to the exemption from motor vehicle tax – the GHG premium, with which the European Union (EU) rewards its commitment to the transport transition and its contribution to environmental protection. While owners of fully electric e-mobiles can participate in quota trading, hybrid vehicles and plug-in hybrids are excluded because they can also be fueled with fossil fuels. To receive the premium, vehicle owners need a so-called GHG certificate.

Greenhouse gas quota made easy

To make it easier for our customers to participate in quota trading, Ecclesia Mobility works in this area with a specialized partner that adds another service to the motor vehicle ecosystem: the Berlin-based company GreenAir is the market leader in the bundling, handling and administration of greenhouse gas quotas. It handles the entire process – from checking the documents and submitting the application to the Federal Environment Agency to selling the GHG quota and paying the premium. To do this, GreenAir has developed its own online platform where, after selecting the vehicle type, all you have to do is upload a scan or photo of the vehicle registration document to prove that you are actually the owner of a purely electric vehicle (two-wheeler, car, light-duty vehicle, bus or truck).

After entering personal data and the required bank details, the quota is applied for directly. This year, it can be up to 330 euros per vehicle. In an option model, our customers benefit directly from the proceeds of the quota, which are based on the daily updated rate on the day of sale. Thanks to a best-price guarantee, 85 percent of the quota is paid out – a rate that is not guaranteed by all external providers. The specialist usually needs 20 to 22 weeks to process the data in collaboration with the Federal Environment Agency, customs and the bundled sale of the GHG quotas to an oil company; payment is made immediately afterwards.

This year, applications for quota trading must be submitted to the Federal Environment Agency by November 15.
